Statue unveiled to mark centennial of novelist Dazai's birth
AOMORI —A ceremony to mark the
centennial of the birth of Japanese novelist Osamu Dazai was held
Friday in his hometown in Aomori Prefecture, during which a full-length
bronze statue of the author was unveiled. Several hundred fans and
guests attended the ceremony in the city of Goshogawara, including
Sonoko Tsushima, the 68-year-old daughter of Dazai (1909-1948), whose
real name was Shuji Tsushima, and Aomori Gov Shingo Mimura.
