China to finance dam construction in Mauritius

Mauritian Minister of Energy and Utilities Rashid Beebeejaun said  Wednesday that China would grant Mauritius 580 million yuan to enable the country to build a dam aimed at proving potable water for residents of Bagatelle, in the central part of the island. The funding is being provided in form of a loan with an interest rate of 2% per year, a moratorium of 5 years and a minimum repayment period over 10 years.

'The dam will meet the needs of the population of the capital and its vicinity,' Mr Beebeejaun said.
