Pilot project
Minister
of Education and Human Resources, Dr Vasan Bunwaree told the National Assembly
on Tuesday that the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) will
start a Professional Baccalaureate pilot project in 2012 following the
construction of a new training centre in Central Flacq at a cost of Rs34
million.
Mr Bunwaree, who was answering a question from his colleague and backbencher Mr
Dhiraj Khamajeet, added that the Professional Baccalaureate course was chosen
after two French consultants conducted a study and recommended its introduction
as the course which is currently being run in MITD centres, the “Brevet de
Technicien”, is being phased out.
According to Mr Bunwaree, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development has
already been contacted to make provision for the training programme under the
Public Sector Investment Sector. The plot of land on which the training centre
is to be built is of an area of three arpents and was acquired on February 17,
2005.
